Professor Douglas Hooton is Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto, Canada. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, The American Ceramic Society, ASTM International, and an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Concrete Technology. Additionally, he is an Honorary Member of the American Concrete Institute. He has held the NSERC/CAC Industrial Research Chair in Concrete Durability and Sustainability. His research focuses on identifying effective strategies to reduce the environmental impact of concrete infrastructure by minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. He investigates the use of supplementary cementitious materials and ground limestone to develop concrete that is more durable and long-lasting. His work has significantly contributed to the development of standards and guidelines issued by prominent organizations such as the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), and ASTM International, particularly in relation to concrete test methods and specifications.
